During this time of physical distancing, here are some ways to keep you connected with the church and with one other.
It's lonely leading worship to empty pews. Send in pictures of you and your family so that Cathy and Leslie can visualize the congregation watching at home.
You could just take a selfie, but where's the fun in that? We'd love to see your artistic representations of yourselves.
If you need some inspiration to get started, here are some ideas:
- 12 Creative Self-Portrait Art Projects - hello, Wonderful
- The No-Phone Selfie - Artistsnetwork
- Or here's a "blank" you can turn into a portrait of yourself.
When you've made your portrait, email it to the office so we can include you in this week's virtual congregation!
We want to see your fur family, too!
Worshiping from home means our congregation has grown with the attendance of our four-legged companions/friends of the animal kingdom.
Submit photos and videos of how your animals are coping with the quarantine. If you have pictures of them watching our streaming worship, that's even better. We will be compiling these submissions into a Facebook album, a YouTube playlist, and a gallery for our website. Be sure to include your pets' names and a caption as appropriate!
Would you, individually, or maybe your child, or maybe your family, consider creating a Station of the Cross?
The Stations of the Cross take us on a journey with Jesus from his prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane to his Easter resurrection. And this year there is an additional layer of contemporary social justice topics to each traditional station of the path Jesus walked.
For children, some of the social justice topics might be of special interest. They include: climate change, poverty, bullying, gender equality, clean air and water, and affordable/safe housing.
We'd love to see a multitude of materials: photography, paint/ink, textile arts, written word, etc. Your station can be original work. OR, maybe there is a favorite poem or photo, etc. that you think perfectly captures the meaning of a given station. That is great, too. We WILL need to properly credit the work so be sure you can provide that information.
Even though we might not be able to walk into the sanctuary, we will be able to view the stations remotely. And, for our Good Friday service we will provide a virtual Walking the Stations of the Cross.
The list of available stations is below; the social justice topic is italicized. Deadline to submit is March 27. The office is open all week, 9:00-5:00. Please come to the office door, leave your station on the short bench outside the office door, and ring the doorbell or call 205-758-1193 to let us know it has arrived.
Please let me know if you can participate and which station you choose.
Thank you for your consideration.
