March Exploratory Committee Report
March 18, 2016, 1:43pm
The UPC CPC Exploratory Committee met on Tuesday, March 8 at Covenant Presbyterian.
Mary Jane Watson began the meeting with a devotional and prayer. We did a general checking in with each other. The overall consensus was that both congregations are enjoying the joint worship services and getting to know each other. There seems to be a general sense of optimism about the possible merger.
UPC recently held a meeting to discuss the possible merger. They used outside facilitators to help guide the meeting. Approximately 45 members attended. UPC plans to hold another meeting for the members who could not attend.
We will submit a recommendation to each session at their March meetings that their respective ministers be asked to seek permission from COM at its April meeting for our congregations to hold merger votes on June 12th following worship at each church.
We agreed that at our next joint meeting at CPC on April 3 that we would hold a joint meeting during the Sunday School hour to talk about the merger together. We hope to have outside facilitators to guide that discussion.
Natalie invited UPC to the CPC annual church/community picnic on June 5. We agreed that the summaries of our two churches will be in the bulletins and the newsletter (attached). Also, Cathy's bio will be included as an insert in CPC's bulletin and newsletter (if approved by Session). Our next exploratory committee meeting will be April 19.
